Mohd Azmi Bin Mohd Hussin, known as ‘ME’, 36, is from Butterworth, Penang. He started working as street caricature artist in 2013. Dato Lat as mentor and inspiration to become a cartoonist like him, Azmi produced the first Cartoon Book in English entitled “Tanjong Life” in February 2015, the publication of Clarity Publishing. The book was officially launched by Dato Lat at Made in Penang Interactive Musuem.
Azmi Hussin then got the opportunity to become editorial cartoonist in the publishing of the newspaper and Penang Monthly Magazine.
In 2016, the second cartoon book titled “The Little Mamak” was published. The book got the attention of locals and foreign tourists visiting Penang. Listed among the 50 “Malaysia Best Title” by the National Book Council representing Malaysia to the Franfurt Book Fair in Germany.
In March 2017, Azmi Hussin made history in Malaysia Book of Records for the category of “Most Caricature Live Paintings in 24 Hours” by producing 320 caricatures.
Azmi Hussin received various offers and opportunities after creating the record and traveled throughout the country to work in 2017 under the sponsorship of Penang Global Tourism
In the same year, in August, Azmi Hussin’s third cartoon book titled “The Little Mamak: Lost In Bagan” was published under the sponsorship of ThinkCity.
Currently, Azmi Hussin’s cartoon painting is not just a reading material and comics, but also the cartoons being used as promotional material and commercial decoration.
On May 1, 2018, Azmi Hussin was awarded the “Pekomik KEMBARA Award” by PEKOMIK Malaysia at PWTC Kuala Lumpur.
In 2019 once again Azmi set his new Malaysia Book of Record under the category “Longest Coffee Painting” by producing 101 metre coffee painting on canvas sponsored by Penang State Government and Starbucks Malaysia.
In 2021, Azmi awarded as “Tokoh Kartunis Pulau Pinang” by RKKM.In June 2021 Azmi produce his 4th Book “Tanjong Life: The new norm” a collaboration with Georgetown Festival.
