Yilin Tan

Yilin Tan was born on March 27, 1990 and is a Penang native who is currently living in Selangor. He received a bachelor’s degree in Bachelor of Applied Visual Imaging from (UCOL, Palmerston North, New Zealand) and a Diploma in Illustrations from One Academy. He is currently working as a Mobile Game Artist.
Taking life experiences and surroundings as inspiration, Yilin uses art as a medium for her self-expression. For him, art is not only a beautiful complement seen by the eyes but the message of art must also reach the heart and convey the message that makes people think.

Our creative freedom and rights to voice out opinions have long been limited by censorship and filtering of information by authorities. It has been happening during the times of the pandemic COVID-19 as well, in which information and the truth have been "censor-tized" to the public, for example, the FINAS attempt to enforce the licensing law to limit freedom of film and social media posting.
#01 CENSOR-TIZER
During these pandemic times, it is crucial that the people get accurate and informative communication from the press. The press, however, has been facing obstacles in their reporting. Their freedom has been threatened by authorities with the Communications & Multimedia Act 1998. The result is, the people are distanced from the communication of facts that they should be getting from the press.
#02 COMMUNICATIONS AND MULTIMEDIA DISTANCING
Even though we are a democratic society, the media is often being restricted and controlled by politics. Many facts that don't serve political interests are being "masked" away, and media workers' jobs and lives are being threatened by laws such as the Communications & Multimedia Act 1998 and the Sedition Act 1948. For example, broadcasters like Astro, Unifi TV being raided as part of an ongoing investigation on the Al Jazeera documentary titled "Locked Up in Malaysia's Lockdown".
