The Force is Strong with Rogue One Red Alert
Last weekend was an eventful weekend for Star Wars fans across the country as a special fan convention was held at The School by Jaya One in Petaling Jaya. After the unexpected success of the original convention, similarly done to celebrate the official Star Wars Day back in May, a lot of our local fans were hoping for more events and conventions along the line.
For the Love of Star Wars
Lo and behold the Rogue One Red Alert fan convention was born! Organised by the official Star Wars Malaysia Fan Club, the Rogue One Red Alert fan convention was held to coincide with the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie premiering in a few weeks. Fans, both casual and hard-core, attended in droves to celebrate their love for the Star Wars franchise. Even non-fans came around to experience all the hubbub!
Filled to the brim with cosplayers, exhibitions, flea markets and everything Star Wars (sans the actual Force) the Rogue One Red Alert convention was really everything a Star Wars could’ve wanted. Merchandise ranging from toys, books, posters and lightsabers were available for fans to purchase and bring home to re-enact their favourite scenes and release their inner fanboy.
Tonnes of activities were held during Rogue One Red Alert such as cosplay competitions for both adults and kids, colouring contests for the kids, and a lightsaber battle demonstration done by local stunt group Force Arts Stunt Team. A special screening of Elstree 1976, a documentary of the cast of crew of the original Star Wars as a treat for fans. For all you readers at home I strongly recommend this fantastic documentary.
There were also ticket sales for a charity screening of the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and charity auctions with all proceeds going to help local charities.
Coming from a Star Wars fan myself, here’s to more conventions such as these in the years to come. May the force be with us all.
